LISTEN // Corey James on Finding Your Sound, Going Full-Time & Feedback

It might seem like a lifetime’s gone by since we were free to go out and enjoy ourselves. From beer gardens to boiler room sets, from the north docks to the Baltic, Liverpool’s nightlife was going strong. Even though we’ve had to go quiet for now, the city’s artists are holding on for the night they can make their big return, and a lot of them are even keeping that momentum going under Lockdown. Artists like Corey James, who’s dropped multiple new releases with both Protocol Recordings and Release Deep Records in the past month alone.

Back in 2019, we invited Corey to join us at the British Music Experience as part of our Phonic Feature masterclass series. We were aiming to lift the lid off the scene and get a look at some of the city’s best grassroots talent, and with a track record with notable labels like Size records, Protocol recordings, Spinnin’ Records, and Big Beat Records; as well as remixes for the likes of Steve Angello, David Guetta, and Nick Romero, Corey was just the man for the job.

As well as sharing his insight and technical skills with our masterclass audience, Corey sat down with host Daniel Fish to record an episode of Your Music Industry Podcast. Now you can listen to Daniel and Corey dig into his early influences, learning how to respond to feedback, and how he took the leap into a full-time career in music. For those of you spending this time making music and planning your next move, this one’s a must listen.
